Deleting an admin or teacher account
Why deletion can be blocked, and the two ways to hand over an institute.
Updated 4 August 2026
Institute accounts carry responsibilities, so deletion is refused while work is still live. This protects students mid-course and stops an institute being left with nobody who can administer it.
Why your deletion was blocked
The message names exactly what is holding it up. For an admin, any of these will block:
- Batches that are still draft or active
- An exam in progress (a student is mid-attempt right now)
- An attendance day left open and not yet submitted
- Ungraded submissions or attempts
- You are the only active admin of the institute
For a teacher, only your own outstanding grading blocks you — ungraded submissions or attempts in batches you teach.
Clear the item it names, then try again. Grading, submitting the open attendance day, and archiving finished batches all resolve on their own once done.
Two ways to hand over
Transfer ownership — best when the institute carries on without you. Add or promote another admin, then transfer ownership to them from institute settings. Only the current owner can transfer. You can then delete your own account.
Archive the institute — best when the institute is closing. Archive every batch first, then archive the institute. Archiving keeps all academic records intact and read-only; it does not delete anything.
The owner and the last admin
You cannot remove the institute owner, and you cannot remove the last active admin — both are refused. Transfer ownership first, or promote a second admin.
What happens to student records
Nothing. Grades, submissions, attendance, and teacher feedback belong to the institute and survive any staff or student account deletion. Deleting a student's account removes them from the batch and erases their personal data only.
Once deletion goes through it follows the standard flow — closed immediately, erased after 30 days, recoverable in between. See Delete your account.
